Junior TAS Sport (Week 1 Term 2)

What an exciting term we have ahead of us! Term 2 is always busy, with a number of major sporting events occurring. It all starts of this Thursday, with the Bayside Cross Country Carnival and then before we know it Round 1 of Junior TAS Rugby and Netball will be upon us. The first round of action is on Saturday 29 April.

Rugby and netball are two of the most popular sports at the school and both hold a lot of prestige among the sporting community. This year we will once again enter the most teams in the Junior TAS draw, with four rugby teams and ten netball teams. This is an astonishing level of participation, as I know that other schools are struggling to enter one or two rugby teams and as a few as three netball teams.

You will find a short synopsis of what is coming up this term below, along with an outline of the key dates moving forward in 2017.

JUNIOR TAS RUGBY & NETBALL

Training for Junior TAS Rugby and Netball began this week during Thursday sport. The main purpose of this training is to select teams and prepare students for next week’s Round 1 fixtures. Finalised team lists and draws should be out by the end of the week.

Equipment that students will need for each sport includes:

Junior TAS Rugby – PE shirt (to wear to games), maroon rugby shorts or PE shorts, rugby boots (moulded), mouthguard, headgear, OC maroon football socks

Junior TAS Netball – PE uniform, OC visor (optional)

Please note that students cannot wear stiff brimmed hats in Junior TAS Netball. For this reason the visor is recommended.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING CLUB

The Cross Country Running Club will reconvene in Week 2 of term, with training scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 7.15am. All training will take place on the BOQ Oval. These trainings are open to all students in Year 3 – 6 who wish to push their claims for Junior TAS selection.

The Junior TAS Cross Country Carnival is on Friday 26 May. Selection for this carnival will be based upon results from the Interhouse Cross Country Carnival, training commitment and a possible selection trial. I will keep everyone posted about this.

REDBACKTV

RedbackTV will be back in Term 2! Episode 11 will air in Week 2 of term and will once again encompass a range of content, including; student interviews, footage of Redbacks in action, special presentations on what is happening in sport at OC and a full wrap-up and preview of sport across the college.
