2016 was a year of change and development for the girls. Miss Nelson took over the reigns as touch football coordinator from Mr McBride who was the inaugural coordinator (2011-2015). There were some new coaches and some new players. The girls responded well to these changes and had their most successful season since 2012.
Below is a snapshot of the Success Rate and Premierships won since Girls Touch Football became a TAS Sport in 2011.
In 2016, the Redbacks equal finished fifth place with Canterbury on 28 points. WestMAC were the Champion Touch Football with 48 points followed by St Columban’s (43), CHAC (37) and St Paul’s (28). The fifth placing was a significant improvement on the eighth placing in 2015.
Miss Nelson was very proud of the efforts of the girls and is primed for another similar level of improvement in 2017. The success of 2016 has also spurred on the girls to register to play touch football and a Year 7/8 TAS Supp team will be entered into the competition.
