AFL Grand Final

Grand Final day had finally arrived. The build-up of the last eight weeks led to this point. On Wednesday 7 September, OC travelled to Yeronga to take on St Laurence’s in the Junior Division. Knowing it was going to be a tough game, the boys were focused and raring to go. It was a tight first quarter with only two goals being scored, but St Laurence’s had the edge going into the quarter time break with a 16 point lead. The second quarter was much the same with OC fighting hard, however the class of our opponents was too strong. This allowed St Laurence’s to take a 34 point lead into the main break. The third quarter saw OC blow some golden opportunities near goal and their opponents quickly pounced on their errors sling-shotting the football from one end to the other with some slick ball movement. The fourth quarter was again competitive and low scoring with just three goals scored. In the end, St Laurence’s ran away with a well-deserved 79 point win. St Laurence’s had a depth of talent to choose from making them unbeatable all season. OC fought valiantly all day and are to be commended on their efforts this season to finish runners-up for the second year in a row. The team spirit shown throughout the term was fantastic as the players grew in confidence with each game. Overall, it was a successful season and the boys are hoping to go one step further next year.
