Good start in the cricket

Many of the OC cricket faithful were constantly refreshing the various weather applications on their devices late last week trying to predict what might transpire with the weather. All reports were for showers in the morning and afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms. Fortunately, two major cells went north and south of Ormiston allowing the morning games to get underway under reasonable conditions and a dry track.

The Ormiston College First XI cruised to a stress-free victory over a less experienced Redeemer outfit. Ormiston chased down Redeemer’s total of 41 with 9 wickets to spare. Redeemer won to toss and elected to bat and a destructive spell from opening bowler Ryan Johnston who took 4/11 off his first 6 overs and Mitchell Davis bagging 4 wickets for 13 runs off 4 overs. Tanner Elliott (2/9 off four overs) was steady with his line and length and saw off Redeemer who were all out for 41 after 17 overs. Ormiston then went straight into bat and openers Jack Moreton (22 not out) and Alex Osborne (12) cruised towards the Redeemer total, only losing a wicket 3 runs short of 42. This win has set up a solid platform and we are looking forward to a season of clear skies and patience. Stuart McNair, Calvin Mulder were all debuting for the First XI, thrilled with their selection. The boys did not get a chance with the willow or ball, however, Mulder took a classy catch at short mid-on. The boys were sharp in the field and Daniel Hornibrook looked safe with the gloves.
The Second XI side consists mainly of Year 10 students this season. The boys are very interested in improving their cricket skills with many of the boys playing the preseason BEARS competition and spending some quality time in the nets over the holidays. Jackson Kovacic led the boys with the bat scoring 28 not out and taking 3 for 7 off four overs.

The Intermediate 1 side did not get a chance to play as the rain came through around 1.00 pm and the run up and pitch became too wet to play. We hope not being able to play WestMAC will not be a determining factor for the season.

The Intermediate 2 side bowled first and the wickets were shared amongst the players. Coaches, Will Mitchell (Old Collegian 2015) and Jai Lordan (Old Collegian and First XI captain 2015), were impressed with the skill level of the boys prior to the game and made a special mention about their positive attitude in Round 1. Redeemer ended up 9/62 and the Redback eclipsed the score with eight wickets spare (2/72). Sam Paltridge (13 off 44 - retired), Thomas Rohm-Hurford (16 off 40 - retired), Sam Webster (6 off 19 not out) and Max Goldsbrough (13 off 19 not out) all contributed to the score board. Sebastian Winsen had a good game with the gloves involving himself in no less than 4 wickets.

Redeemer were unable to field a Third XI or Intermediate 3 side.

This week our First XI, Third XI and Intermediate 1 sides travel to West Moreton Anglican College and our Second XI, Intermediate 2 and Intermediate 3 sides will play at home.
