For the first time this season the cricketers were able to secure victories in all divisions. The First XI outclassed an undermanned opponent. St Columban’s were sent into bat first and Stuart MacNair (3/3 off 5 overs) and Calvin Mulder (3/15 off 8 overs) were uncompromising with the ball. The total was eclipsed in the 12th over.
The Second XI batted first and were led by their skipper, Chris Metcalfe who scored 32 runs from 51 balls before losing his wicket. With the ball, Ben Stone had a blinder sending down his rockets claiming 3/7 from his 4 overs.
Third XI batsman, Tom Waller-Brown (63 from 27) and Jared Marot (52 from 37), were intent on making the 1v2 final and laid an unassailable lead through crafty shot making and running between the wickets.
Interestingly, the First XI, Second XI and Third XI kept St Columban’s to the lowest total against OC ever. Considering we have played St Columban’s since 1996, that is a massive effort by all three teams.
The Intermediate 1, 2 and 3 sides all tasted victory in the final round before the finals. Intermediate 1 firecracker, Graeme MacNair, has been looking to contribute with bat and ball all season and did so in spades against St Columban’s. Firstly, with the ball he claimed 4/7 from 5 overs and then with the bat he played a marvelous innings scoring 55 from 67 deliveries. Everyone was happy for Graeme as he is so supportive of everyone else and it was great to see his turn the shine.
The Intermediate 2 game was a low scoring affair, although it took a few overs for OC to pass the target set by St Columban’s. Jackson Mauerhan, Intermediate 3 player, was the standout performing in his game scoring 31 runs from 19 balls.
